The Coronavirus is an additional problem for victims of domestic abuse. Abusers are using the virus to further isolate and control their victims.  We know that social distancing and isolation is important in limiting the spread of COVID-19, however, it will drastically impact victims of domestic abuse.

Work often gives victims an opportunity to breath, a chance to tend to wombs and, a small sense of freedom from the abuser.  During this lock down victims are walking around on egg shells, stressed and dodging daggers all day every day.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline reports that calls are up and victims are reporting that if they cough or show any signs of sickness the abuser has threatened to throw them out of the home.  Perpetrators are also withholding money for co-pays, prescriptions and, other medical services.

Victims are functioning as best as they can while homeschooling their children and dealing with the pressure and stress of the abuser.  According to the World Health Organization, during times of crisis such as natural disasters, wars and epidemics violence against women increases.  In February, the number of domestic violence calls tripled in China.
